About Apartment 11

Founded in 2000 and led by its President, Jonathan Finkelstein, Apartment 11 consistently delivers quality, story-driven ratings successes to its global broadcast partners. The Montreal-based creative hub has produced more than 325 hours of scripted and non-scripted programming, mostly for children’s and youth audiences.

Presently in production is 3D animation bridging series Interstellar Ella (52×11), about Ella gleefully testing her limits in a star-filled playground called ‘The Milky Way, co-produced with Fabrique Fantastique for Warner Media EMEA, TVOkids, Radio-Canada, TFO, Knowledge Network, Ketnet and with the generous support of the Shaw Rocket Fund.

An elite school for circus artists provides the backdrop for the youth drama series Big Top Academy (52 x 30 minutes, Discovery kids/ TVO/Hulu/Pop UK, in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil), and its spin-off series Big Top Academy – School’s Out Edition (26 X 11 minutes, TVO/Pop UK in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil.)

Taking an entertaining approach to learning, Apartment 11 is also recognized for education-focused series such as Look Kool and its French counterpart C’est Wow! (TVOKids, TFO), a series simultaneously shot and produced in both English and French, that uses songs, comedy sketches and games to make geometry and math fun; The Wacky Word Show (TVOKids), a literacy series that inspires kids to have fun with words and language, and its Wacky Songs spin-off shorts (TVOKids); Raven’s Quest (TVOKids), an autobiographical series of stories told by Indigenous children from across the country and its spin-off Sunny’s Quest (TVOKids); Finding Stuff Out, a globally-distributed science-focused series that encourages kids to investigate questions that matter to them; and The Mystery Files (TVOKids), a series that uses mystery to illuminate history.

Preeminent at developing and producing high value entertainment, Apartment 11 is proud to have a vast library of original productions that includes ratings hits such as Prank Patrol (YTV),  Mystery Hunters (Discovery Kids, YTV) the reality competition series In Real Life (YTV, ABC Australia), and Rank the Prank (CBBC, Nickelodeon). Amateur triple-threats take to the stage in the docu-soap Way off Broadway (13 x 1 hour for Bravo, CTV). Apartment 11 also produced two series for CBC Kids, the long-running food and cooking gameshow Surprise! It’s Edible! Incredible! and the online/TV multi-platform travelling series Cross Country Fun Hunt.

Apartment 11 collaborates with almost every major Canadian broadcast partner, including CBC, YTV, Bell Media, TVO, Radio-Canada, TFO and with international partners including BBC, Nickelodeon, Discovery, ABC (Australia), and Cirque du Soleil. There are 150 countries airing shows produced by Apartment 11. Apartment 11 has won a Peabody Award, multiple Japan Prize awards (including the Grand Prix), Youth Media Alliance Awards, Gemini/Canadian Screen Awards, a Viewers’ Choice Kidscreen Award and has also been nominated for two International Emmy Awards.
